Science Experiments - Weathering
Recently in Mr. Perrin's science class, students participated in a hands on experiment studying weathering. Students started with a simple jar filled with 4 sugar cubes and 3 marbles. The sugar cubes represent stone before weathering, and the marbles represent the cause of weathering (in this case abrasion). The students shook them in intervals of 25 - 25, 50, 75, 100. Recording the changes to the sugar cube after each 25 shakes. The cubes were broken down into smaller, rounded pieces by the marbles which is what happens in nature. They then compared the differences of the sugar cube before and after weathering. This hands-on experience is one of many upcoming projects for the middle school science students.
