Founder's Day -- GSS Remembers Fr. Tompson

Our Founder's Day Ceremony began with a special Mass celebrated by Father Anthony McGinn, S.J. at Immaculate Conception Church followed by a reception for all guests in Lenes Hall.  Fr. Harry Tompson, S.J. founded The Good Shepherd School 18 years ago, just four months before passing away from cancer.  He never saw the first child walk into the school.  However, he lives and breathes through the children, faculty, staff and benefactors who work to carry out his vision every day!  School president/CEO, Thomas Moran Jr., addressed the congregation of students, teachers, parents, benefactors, volunteers, and friends of GSS with a message of hope.  He talked about Fr. Harry's vision and how he continues to watch over all of us.  Thank you, Fr. Tompson. Today you are remembered, but your vision is forever founded in our quest to carry out the mission that is The Good Shepherd School.

GSS Mission Statement
The Good Shepherd Nativity Mission School, Inc., seeks to help low-income, urban youth in order to realize their fullest potential as productive members of society by providing them with an extended-day, year-round, quality education, integrated with personal, moral and spiritual development, and continued guidance during the students' further education.

The Judeo-Christian values which have inspired the Nativity model include a respect for the dignity and potential of each person, a responsibility to assist the poor and those in need, a strong sense of community within the one family of God, and the obligation to promote a society characterized by social justice. In this Nativity model, students are enrolled without regard to race, color, religion, or ethnicity.
