Faith as the Cornerstone
"See, I am laying a stone... a tested stone, a precious cornerstone for a sure foundation; whoever puts faith in it will not waiver." - Isaiah 28:16
The Good Shepherd School addresses the needs of the whole child - the academic, physical, social and emotional needs of our students. Woven throughout, as the cornerstone of their education GSS addresses the spiritual needs of each student. In the Jesuit tradition of our founder, Fr. Harry Tompson, S.J., we aspire to "seeing God in all things." We believe that each little person that walks through our doors is Jesus in disguise and not only do we aim to care for them as such, but we aim to give them that same understanding - that they too are "fearfully and wonderfully made" (Psalm 139:14) in God's own image.
We address the faith and spiritual needs of our students through the following:
We address the faith and spiritual needs of our students through the following:
- Prayer - at GSS we begin and end each day in prayer to offer thanks and ask for God's grace and blessings to guide us in all that we do.
- Religion - religious instruction is integrated into the daily curriculum.
- Mass & Prayer Services - each week we gather as a faith community to celebrate God's love through Mass or a spirited prayer service filled with music, prayer and message that relates to our students both in culture and age.
- Models of Faith - lastly but of utmost importance is that the GSS faculty and staff aim to be models of faith through our words and most importantly our deeds. We treat each other and our students with love and kindness, we greet them always with a smile and strive to provide a nurturing environment where they can trust that GSS is not just their school but their family.
